First- does it really take a mental giant to see that building a mosque anywhere near the site of the 9/11/2001 attacks is degrading to America and also insulting to the victims of those atrocities? I think not - their argument is that they have a "right" to build it there. Well here again we Americans are confusing what is a "right" and what is a privilege. No one has a "right" to build anything anywhere - that is ludicrous to believe much less say - we have no inalienable right to build anything......construction is a privilege bestowed upon us by development boards, planning commissions, and those who control the development of a populous area. No one has a right to build anything, it is a privilege -that being the case, their argument is moot. The decision falls into the hands of the development committee who made a bad decision. Their fear of reprisals from the Islamic world caused them to cave in. Everyday they refuse building requests for different reasons - some of these reasons are frivolous at best.....but in this case they chose the cowardly way out and granted the permit. Contrary to the beliefs of the majority of Americans and New Yorkers. Once again - in the name of "tolerance" we have allowed the opinions, statements, and threats of the minority dictate to the majority what is going to happen.
We have allowed a belief in tolerance taint our American values and statutes. Make no mistake, America was not founded for "religious freedom" it was founded by speculators who saw a way to make money - in this process, CHRISTIANS who were being persecuted in England because they were not of the Church of England came here to practice Christian worship how they believed they were to worship. -
The separation of church and state as outlined in our constitution has been perverted, manipulated and distorted. The men who included this in the Bill of Rights, were speaking of one thing only - "there shall be no Federally controlled Church" (paraphrase) no where in their thoughts, was this to be applied to anything other than stopping a repeat of the Church of England. No where does it include anything outside Christianity. Therefore, there is no constitutional protection for any "religion" outside of Christianity. We are a Christian country, we were founded by Christians, and we need to remain a Christian Country.
In the name of "tolerance" we have watered down the principals Christians believe in. We have begun to accept lifestyles that are blatantly contrary to scripture, we have watered down sin in every area of life, from sex, to gambling, promiscuity, profanity, you name it and its watered down. Sin is vogue, instead of being embarrassed by sin we honor it and cheer it on. Some of our "hero's" are those who commit the most sin and seem to get away with it.
We need to step back and look at our tolerance stance and see - is being tolerant really what we need to be doing? We are tolerant of homosexuality and intolerant of immigrants. We are tolerant of abortion, and intolerant of father's rights. We are tolerant of criminals, and intolerant of victims rights.
Our tolerance is out of control.......many Americans are so afraid of offending someone that they don't take a stance on anything. We don't want to offend the Muslims, so we allow them to run all over us. We are tolerant of Muslims, but intolerant of Christians.
No the Mosque does not need to be built. The city of New York should do the honorable thing and revoke the building permit. And the idiot in Florida who calls himself a Pastor, should not be burning Koran's - that serves no purpose other than what he has already gotten. It is self promoting and self indulging. Let that story die.
Someone said on the news - "Jesus wouldn't burn a Koran." I spit my coffee when I heard this, the stupidity of that statement is beyond belief. But for the record.....you are right, he wouldn't because it wouldn't have been a threat in his life, because only 1% of the population could READ! So there would have been no need to burn it. But let's be clear-----no where in the Bible can you find anything that promotes tolerance of other religions. On the contrary - Jesus is very clear. "No one comes to the father but through me"(Jn 14:6), "I am the door....."(Jn 10:9) "Anyone who calls on the name of Christ will be saved...."(Acts 2:21) etc. There are NO allowances for other beliefs, other "religions" other faiths. There is one and one only........ I am in not position to speak of what Jesus would and wouldn't do - but I am certain of one thing......he would not have agreed that Islam is the way - he would have said to all who were Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, etc that there is only one way to heaven and only one God - and yours ain't it!
