In the wake of the controversy surrounding Phil Robertson and his comments in a recent interview for GQ magazine. I feel compelled to make a few comments.
First, it angers me as a Christian to hear how the liberal media has taken his comments and twisted them, contorted and bastardized them to again fit their agenda. Granted Phil Robertson's comments were blunt, frank and "in your face". But they were his comments, his beliefs, his views. He has the right to hold those views and to express them. For A&E Network to behave as if they are surprised by his comments is a farce. Phil has made the A&E network millions of dollars. They knew what they were getting when they hired him and his family to do the show. Straight talking, bible walking, honest God fearing people.
As a Christian, I admire Phil for his stance, for his guts and willingness to say the truth of what the bible says. Hollywood and the liberal media can pervert the scriptures, adjust their morals, and cast stones at everyone who doesn't embrace their lifestyle. However, as a Christian, the word is clear. Anyone who chooses to live a life of sin, blatant sin has a tattered relationship with God and are in need of repentance.
I am comforted by the fact that I am a sinner in need of grace and God and has offered His grace to me and everyone who seeks his face.
I pray that those who find offensive the comments Mr. Robertson made will also understand that their lifestyle is offensive to me and my family. I am asked, forced to witness their displays of affection, their constant badgering on the TV and their desires to be recognized all the while showing nothing but disdain for anyone who disagrees with their lifestyle.
For me its simple. Homosexuality is a sin. I do not want to have their sin thrust into my life or family's exposure any more than i want the sin of adultery or prostitution, thrust into my life or family's exposure.
I have the right to not have the sins of others thrust into my life.
