World Cup Embarrassment

I watched in disgust yesterday as Spain won the world cup of soccer (football). I cannot believe the way they played the game. I am by no means even a casual soccer fan. And I don't pretend to know the nuances of the game. But I know a dive when i see one, and Spain should have won the world cup of diving - not soccer. It was embarrassing to watch as time after time the Spanish players would dive anytime a player from Holland got even close. Shadow diving, slow motion replays showed time and again the Spanish players flailing their arms, skidding across the ground wincing in pain trying to get Yellow cards against the Netherlands team. And unfortunately the referee fell for the trick far too often. 9 Yellow cards against one team in the World Cup final is embarrassing.

Spain should be embarrassed and ashamed at how they won that match. They have the trophy, but they were not the best team, and they didn't play like Champions. Prior to this match I had enjoyed watching the matches. On many occasions I saw excellent skill and gamesmanship. Until Sunday. I'm just glad its 4 more years before we have to watch that spectacle like that again.
