Its Time to Move On

I don't know if I'm alone in this, I'll go out on a limb and say that I am not. But I am so tired of hearing about Roger Clemens and Bret Favre that I could throw up every time I hear their names on Sports Center. Come on guys, it really is time to move on.

Bret had a wonderful career, and I completely understand his "need" for the competition. Many high level athletes have a difficult time getting that itch scratched. They love to compete and compete on a high level. And as much as I enjoy watching him play. It really is time to move on. Or at the very least, quit "retiring" and just take a leave of absence. The word Retire has certain implications, it implies your done, finished, complete. If you retire and then come back to work, then you never retired, you just took a leave of absence. If you are going to retire, then by all means, retire. Stay home in Mississippi and hunt deer and fish for crappie. Make a decision and stick to it. We really enjoyed your career, leave us with fond memories, not memories of an old guy who can't make up his mind. A lot of guys retire while they can still play at a high level - Barry Sanders for one. He retired gracefully and with dignity. Bret Favre should do the same. Move on Bret.

Roger Clemens spends so much time with his foot in his mouth my memory of him is being tarnished. I have forgotten the seven Cy Young awards, I have forgotten the intensity of his competitiveness, I have forgotten his blazing fastball. Roger, you will never fully clear your name, and the longer you keep up the fight the more frustrated the fans will become. Let our memories of you be striking out 20 batters in one game, let us remember you in Boston and NY as a fierce competitor. Not someone who refuses to go away with dignity. Whether you are right or not is irrelevant at this point. Whether you took HGH or steroids or not is mute as far as the fans are concerned. The minds of baseball people are made up, some will never believe you, others will believe you and most of us don't care. What we care about is all of the attention this is getting - and we are sick of it. Move on Roger.
